The Weekend Roundup, 'Q'

I am happy to be back this week for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. The 17th letter takes a little bit of work to locate, but I did find a few...

My first example of beginning with 'Q' is the is the province and City of Quebec. This is Grandpa below the classic Château Frontenac, I believe in 1966 or 1967. What a classic building - and guy!

Here are Quilts along the balcony of the First Congregational Church in Seymour, CT
Obviously, 'Q' works for Quackers. Alas, it is not a Quartet nor Quintet, but instead a sextet paddling down the Housatonic River

A Favorite. Without a deep frost so far this autumn, the foliage color is not at all vibrant - this is the subtle color on Wednesday at Osbornedale StatePark in Derby CT. Have a great week!

The Weekend Roundup, 'O'

It is a rainy and raw Saturday - and a perfect time to write a post for Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. The fourth vowel is featured this week and matching it took some time...

'O' is for Ohio. I believe this Ohio exhibit is at the NY Worlds Fair 1939-1940, its Opening year. My dad was almost 12 that year.

My father is older here, then in the US Army Air Forces in either 1946 or 1947. He is with Aunt Terry in Steubenville Ohio, under the Market Street Bridge that crosses the Ohio River.

Then there is Dodge Omni. My then toddler nephew Matt is running by my dad's 1979 Omni O24, my 1979 Omni (R) and if you look closely past my teal Dodge is the backside of my sister's '79 Omni O24. A trifecta of sorts...

And here is the Olympia Diner on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington, CT. Best corned beef hash I've had anywhere!

Favorite. Here are two swans floating blissfully on the still water at the Pond at Witek Park in Derby CT. All is well in this peaceful scene.

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Some Street Fair Scenes

It's nice to be back at Shadow Shot Sunday 2 Last Saturday the city held its annual Harvest Festival. a chairman of the Ansonia Cultural Commission, I oversaw all aspects of the event and was responsible for securing (and approving payment for) the entertainment, ponies and petting zoo.

Lots of work (and all volunteer), but with the magnificent sunny and warm (68°F / 20°C) day, it was a success! 'Harvey' was our mascot, the kids magic act had bubbles and the music selection was nice, the shadows a stylish byproduct...see the slideshow for more:

The Weekend Roundup, 'N'

I am back this week and ready for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. The letter this week allows for an eclectic selection of unique and different views. As the Great One said, 'and away we go'...

Begins with 'N' offers a view of Manhattan in New York City. My daughter took the photo with her phone as I was driving (always a good idea :) on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway northbound. Although a bit pixelated, the expansive skyline and Brooklyn Bridge let us out-of-towners know just where we are...

Sticking with New York City, this is Grandpa on New Year's Eve 1963 (I think) in Times Square. Those of a certain age might remember the BOAC reference...I do!

How about Newborn? This is our son Cameron, and is newborn the correct term for someone three days old?

Near (and Neigh). I don't get close to horses so I'd say this is as closest to a beautiful equine I've been in a wheelchair. This is Huckleberry and he is gorgeous!

Favorite. Patti captured this lovely sunset over downtown Ansonia the other day. A pretty ending to an autumn day. Have a great week all!

The Weekend Roundup, 'L'

Today is the first day of Autumn, but more importantly, Friday and time again for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. This week's letter. 'L', offered a multitude of subjects and here are mine...

Lake. This old print is the end of day at Big Stony Lake in Minnesota. One of over 13000 lakes in the Gopher state, it is about four hours northwest of the Twin Cities - a world away!

How about Legs? I attempted to capture Patti and co-workers at her colleagues at a wedding a while ago. It was taken at wheelchair height and I guess I lost focus you might say :) BTW, the always lovely Patti is in Blue...

Here is Long Island Sound in West Haven Connecticut

Here is a fabulous desert, Lava Cake. served with vanilla bean gelato, and a lake of chocolate. Yum!

Favorite. Here is a cheap solar light by our driveway with an interesting spider motif as the light illuminates the asphalt. Happy Weekend to all!

The Weekend Roundup, 'K'

It is Friday and time for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. Today's letter created an interesting challenge which prompted a look into the past at another eclectic collection of shots...

Begins with 'K' gave me a chance to showcase our then non-grownup Kids. This is the first day of school in August 1997, with Allegra and Cameron beginning the fourth and second grade her.

Key West is another 'K'. Here at the southernmost point of the USA us my Aunt Terry in 1993

How about our King of this Jungle, the always regal Linus McDonald? Or is that HRH Linus?

Kaboom. Patti captured this brilliant ruby red fireworks kaboom in Manchester, Connecticut

Favorite. This is a lovely striped sunset over our back yard in Ansonia. It is the soothing end of the day. Have a great weekend!

The Weekend Roundup, 'J'

Ah, a refreshingly cool and way less humid Friday has arrived so it's time for Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. The eighth letter of the alphabet is featured this week, and an subjects are in order...

I'll start with 'J' by showcasing January. I chose the top example as January, 1959 as the print is date stamped. L-R, Aunt Terry, Dad and big sis Michele are  an ice rink in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Another 'J' is the day after another blizzard of snow on Ansonia. The day is January 27, 2011. Looks pretty until said snow has to be removed from the driveway!

Here is Jewelry, more specifically Patti's engagement and wedding rings in 2011. They were cut off before surgery she had that year. But not to worry, they were laser welded together by a very talented local gemologist - you could not see the seam! The other photo shows Patti at a watercolor class in 2015 and the rings are fixed and fitted nicely...

Patti captured this beautiful Blue Jay on our gutter. What a great looking bird!

Favorite. Here is Colony Pond in our town of Ansonia. it was a very hot and humid day, but despite the climate today, the water looks refreshingly cool. We would never jump in, but it feels a little cooler at lease. Happy weekend to all

The Weekend Roundup, 'I'

It is Saturday in the lead-up to Labor / Labour Day, so it's time for Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. Given the many days of heat and humidity in Southern New England (well, not nearly as hot as Phoenix nor as humid as Houston), the first photos take us away from Summer for a bit...

Beginning with 'I' begins with Icicles and my view Inside of an Icy Rain storm outside our front door from wheelchair height. The pics are from 2011 where we had an unusually cold, snowy and Icy winter.

Industrial. Here are massive fuel tanks along the docks of New Haven Harbor.
Finally, here is a pic of the Intercoastal Waterway taken from the mainland side in Stuart Florida. This is an old print taken in December 1980 (where it was not Icy :). Happy Labor Day!

The Weekend Roundup, 'H'

It is time again for Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. The letter 'H' is featured and I am ready!

Starts with 'H'. I chose Connecticut's capital city, Hartford. I love the gold dome on the state capitol and the general ambience of the ride in and various sights...

Connecticut state capitol, 1885
The Hartford Public Library extends over an expressway.
Bushnell Park in Downtown Hartford.
Approaching downtown on I-91 North.

It may not be the season this weekend - however there is Halloween...
The always lovely Patti and myself, Halloween 1986
Cameron and Allegra, 2001.
Allegra's first Halloween, 22 months, 1990.
Alice in Wonderland in vinyl, 1993
Horse. awhile back, we visited a farm for abused horses, Lockets meadow in Bethany Connecticut. These horses are gentle giants in this rehabilitation paradise. Note the little girl offering blades of grass for this peaceful equine - and the gentle giant politely accepting the gift.Note the mesh blinders that keep the horseflies from bothering him/her. This looks like a content horse!
