Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Constructing Shadows

Construction and shadows go together well.

So for this week’s Shadow Shot Sunday 2, the always lovely Patti captured these linear shadowy shots as Seymour (CT) High School students were building a two-bedroom “house” as a wooden structure will be used for firefighter training in controlled burns.

Under the sky of a breathtakingly beautiful day, these shadows were solidly constructed too! Have a nice Memorial Day weekend MMT!

See Patti's article in Friday's Valley-Voice newsletter.

The Weekend Roundup "U"

Friday arrives again so I am ready for another installment of Tom's most excellent meme The Weekend Roundup. The final vowel is this week's letter...

Starts with "U". My first entry is the S.S. United States, once the fastest liner (35 knots if I recall). It currently is berthed in Philadelphia awaiting its fate. This photo was taken in 2000 and we took the long way home from a vacation to get it. Why? Our son, then 9, was so interested in the classic ocean liners (Titanic, et al) we thought he'd like to see it. Patti took the pic (see mirror)
For this weekend, another 'U' is the United States Air Force (USAF) where family members have served. The first is my dad (seated on the eft, lower row) who was actually United States Army Air Force as this was before the formation of the USAF in 1947...
My sister Michele was in the USAF as an engine mechanic (T-37, T-38) in the '70s at the old Williams AFB in Arizona...
My late sister Claudia was also in the USAF. Here she was graduating from Officer Training School as a Second Lieutenant (2nd Lt) in 1984 at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. She is with my dad, 3+ decades from his days in the USAAF...
My brother Chris retired from the USAF a few years ago. Here I think was around 1985 at work.
Finally I am Under, and looking Up at a pair of aerobatic plaines at an air show a few decades ago. I love the precision these pilots as the fly in close quarters. Have a nice Memorial Day as we memorialize those who sacrificed their lives allow us the many freedoms we enjoy...

The Weekend Roundup - 'T'

It is Friday again, so is time again for Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. Love the letter this week...

Starts with "T." I think Tennis fits, and someone doing it from a wheelchair is unique indeed.

Another is Three Saints Orthodox Church in Ansonia CT. Opened in 1955, it seems to blend old with new.

A delicious treat is Tirasimu

A Favorite is this capture of a squirrel  on our roof. I am unsure what he was carrying in his mouth. I guess it is dryer lint, but will take any suggestion :)

Truck. I saw this at a car show, a 1960 Mack. I've always loved the Mack bulldog. Nice prompts Tom!

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Anniversary Meal, Beginning and End

We are always looking for a side order shadows when we dine out. And and when seated by a window, we are ready for Shadow Shot Sunday 2. It was dinner to celebrate our 32nd anniversary of the always lovely Patricia myself! The crab dip with toasted pita chips began  while the chocolate cheesecake with two spoons ended the event. We also celebrated the year since Patti's transplant, and all is well! Thanks for hosting MMT!

The Weekend Roundup 'S'

It's Friday and so it is time again for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. I like this week's letter and since I was not here last week, my week's favorite pic was from the event I attended last weekend. Onward we go...

My first 'S' is Steeple. Here is the classic New England steeple on the First Congregational Church in Derby CT. If you look closely, you will see the cell phone relays located on the steeple.
Another 'S' is a fun blast from the past - Skating on ice at a rink in St. Paul Minnesota, my dad and his sister and my big sister Michele with her NHL aspirations. The date stamp on the pics is Jan. 1959, and this day, Snowless in St. Paul...
Finally, how about young Ralph in 1964 in front of Captain Starn's Yacht Bar in Atlantic City. This was long before the glitzy casinos of today. In fact, this place looks like it was as seaworthy as the S.S. Minnow...
My Favorite. Last week we celebrated the always lovely Patti's one year anniversary of her kidney transplant in May 2017. We had a pizza party for family and friends at Rosa Mina, our favorite restaurant in Ansonia. Of course, there was cake - and Kidneyversary was the perfect description for a day to celebrate!
