The Weekend Roundup 'D'

Friday is here so it is time again for a great meme, The Weekend Roundup, hosted by Tom. The letter 'D' is this week's letter, and I have a few! Let us begin...
Starts with 'D'. Of course, my ride is a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan with a Braun wheelchair conversion. Suitably modified, it is my current four-wheel steed!
Dodge vehicles are not exclusive to me (although I did own a 1979 Dodge Omni and 1989 Dodge B250 van previously). My Grandpa drove Dodge cars from 1936 to 1976). Here is Easter Sunday 1947 with my Dad (age 19) leaning on Grandpa's 1947 Dodge on Oregon Avenue in Steubenville, Ohio.
Patti captured this last week, it was a beautiful day on the town green of our neighboring town of Derby, Connecticut. It was a lovely Winter day if very cold - and this is my Favorite pic this week!
Finally, we have Ducks on the Housatonic River in Shelton Connecticut. This pic was taken on a warm day awhile ago - I wish it was as nice and warm as this today!
Details. I captured this wheel from wheelchair height on a 1936 Dodge at a local car show. The wheel is fully detailed with whitewalls and trim rings. Further details are seen in the brilliant chrome hub cap. Can you spot the photographer?

The Weekend Roundup "C"

Friday is here so it is time again for a great meme, The Weekend Rounduphosted by Tom. The letter 'C' is featured prominently today and is where we begin...

Starts with 'C'. Here is the entrance Union Congregational Church in Rockville, Connecticut. Its windows and arches are Circular in style.
The next 'C' is Crowded. These pics were taken in August 2007 when we were bringing our daughter back for her sophomore year at the University of Hartford. Although my ford E150 van was big, there was lots of stuff. I had to get into the driver's seat first so my wheelchair could be used for space. Note her computer between the front seats. Believe it or not, four other passengers made the trip too!
Obviously, our furry family feline (aka: Cat) Linus McDonald is seemingly in a trance as he sits in a open box.
Clouds. Our daughter captured these clouds from a 737 over the mid-Atlantic seaboard, perhaps as it gets ready to land in Raleigh. Nice wispy clouds hopefully meant a smooth descent minus any bumps...
Week's Favorite. It was cloudy all day but enough sun allowed for a colorful sunset view out our living room windowon Tuesday.

Shadow Shot Sunday - Shadowy Spans

I have missed a few of the always great meme Shadow Shot Sunday2 - but am happy to be back to the shadowy artistry! Last week, our son's fractured hip had healed sufficiently with the physical therapy he received up here and Allegra took phone pics while I drove Cameron back to his apartment in the New York City of Borough of Brooklyn.

There are many stylish bridges crossing the many waterways. The two pics on top are going southbound on the RFK/Triboro Bridge, opened in 1936. Above is the span from the Bronx to Randalls Island, below to Queens over the East River. On the bottom is the new Kosciuszko Bridge, crossing Newton Creek between Brooklyn and Queens, completed last year. Shadows fall nicely from the cables and ironwork on this very cold but bright day.

The Weekend Roundup "B"

I am back to a new favorite photo meme, The Weekend Rounduphosted by Tom. The letter 'B' figures prominently as his fractured hip is healing nicely and we brought him back to his domicile in the NYC borough of Kings, ie: Brooklyn with which we begin...

One way to get to his apartment from our CT home is I-278, including the parking lot known as the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE). Alas, it is still the most direct way :)
Here I am double parked by his apartment as he and his sister brought his belongings. This is on 19th Street in the Ditmas Park section of Brooklyn, adjacent to the better known neighborhoods of Flatbush and Prospect Park. Double parking and not getting a ticket is an art around here!
Of course, there are Bridges in the city and here are two, the 1883 Brooklyn Bridge taken from the BQE (note the old cast iron guardrail). The other is the beautiful 1940 Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, both crossing the East River. Engineering and art at their finest...
New Beginning. To the left is our Son Cam, to the right our daughter Allegra, both pics their first day at home. They were very new!

Week's Favorite. I was driving and Allegra took this pic as we were taking our now healed son back home to Brooklyn. We are happy that his fractured hip is healing and he can get back to the city and his friends. Here is the Bronx approach to the RFK/Triboro Bridge to Queens and then to Brooklyn

The Weekend Roundup...A

This is the first installment in a new weekly photo meme, The Weekend Roundup, hosted by Tom. Onward...

My birthplace was Atlantic City, NJ. That qualifies as an 'A'. Grandpa poses by the famous Boardwalk in front of the old Traymore Hotel in 1956.

More Atlantic City, the family rides bicycles on the Boardwalk. July, 1969
Animals start with 'A'. And as a cat, Linus McDonald qualifies. Naturally, he is asleep :)
We live in Ansonia, Connecticut; our domicile is a nice example of the first letter
Finally, our daughter is named Allegra. She's in the photo - somewhere. Happy New Year!
