Shadow Shot Sunday - Shelton History Center

I like vintage - in lots of things, especially old cars and buildings. So for Shadow Shot Sunday 2, I go back a couple of weeks to a car show at the Shelton (CT) History Center. The architecture is great including the 1872 Trap Falls Schoolhouse, 1822 Brownson House, 1860 Wilson Barn and the (unknown) tool shed showcase history without and with shadows. Of course, the much newer (but still old :) cars draw me in as always. I like the custom 1956 Ford F-100 truck, the red 1959 Edsel (I have seen since 2009 and even posted about it back then) but my favorites were two: the restored 1957 milk truck and a gorgeous Pink 1957 Ford Thunderbird that includes Betty Boop. It was a hot day with enough shade for a brief cool-down). Plenty of shadows to enjoy with the history...

The scenes and day were just right for an article in our Valley-Voice newsletter

Friday Hunt 2017.2.4

Friday arrives as does a favorite meme, Friday Hunt hosted by Teresa. The prompts are intriguing, and I am ready!

Starts with D. I have chosen a vehicle that starts with ‘D’: Dodge. In fact, I have owned a few, and Grandpa had many of them too. Clockwise from left: Grandpa’s 1947 Dodge with Dad and Aunt Terry, likely on US 40; My first new vehicle, a 1979 Dodge Omni late that year; my second Dodge and first wheelchair driver vehicle, a 1989 Dodge B250 4/20/1996; My current ride, a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan with Braun wheelchair conversion. A bunch/flock/gaggle of ‘D’s...
Favorite. This is an old pic posted before that I had to capture. The scenario is sitting in the starboard side of Delta flight 674 - on 3 January 1981, about 6:45 AM between Atlanta and Philadelphia. The old Canon rangefinder captured the winter sun starting to rise. This is a bit pixelated perhaps, but a favorite of mine.
Photographer’s choice. In 1983, I captured a friendly Dog named Brandy, a nice golden retriever drying off after a swim in Big Stony Lake in northwest Minnesota. She looks to have enjoyed the water, and I am partial to the blurry canoe approaching the shore. A nice dog, day and memory!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Sultry Gaggle

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 returns in a hot and humid spell in Southern CT. On Pickett's Pond in Osbornedale State Park in neighboring Derby, a gaggle of geese seem to be weighing their options as to wether to stand or swim. Perhaps a cooling swim is what these land-lubber waterfowl need. If I were in their webbed feet, I might too...

Friday Hunt 2017.2.3

Friday is here and time again for Teresa’s fun meme Friday Hunt. She provides the prompts, we the pics, and away we go:

Starts with C. There are lots of this letter around. First is our son Cameron, at his second birthday in 1992…and in 2003 taking a unique implement to toast that marshmallow over the fading charcoal heat...
Another 'C' is convertible, and two I saw at a car show on Sunday, a Triumph TR-3 and a 1936 Ford, both looking very nice with their tops folded down.

Building. I was in this building on Tuesday and I love the design. This is the Emmett O’Brien Technical High School after its dramatic expansion and makeover. It feels like a ship’s bow cruising along the Ansonia hilltop
Something I wear. I certainly wouldn’t wear these in the current July heat and humidity - however in the winter, with the drafty heat these microwave slippers are a toasty treat for the toes. Thanks Teresa for the prompts!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Derby near dusk

A favorite fun meme of mine, Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back. Today, it is near the end of daylight and in neighboring Derby, shadows are about. The steeples of St. Mary's Catholic and Derby United Methodist capture the sunny brilliance - as if from the heavens. The day ends quietly...

Friday Hunt 2017.2.2

The change in weather from hot and humid yesterday to cool and rainy today was noticeable, yet it is perfect day for another post in Teresa's fun meme Friday Hunt. The prompts await...

Starts with 'B'. I thought that Beach was a perfect 'B', and here are three pics from a family vacation on Cape Cod, at two beaches in the town of Barnstable at (Craigville and Kalmus). Warm days along Nantucket Sound with warm waters for New England (73°F) / 23°C). I am in a beach chair, the children are in and out of the water - I'd still give the Cape beaches a tip of the hat today...
Out of Balance. I think, anyway. These BMX riders are at a program at a school in neighboring Seymour. I think they are moving as they are with speed and inertia. They landed well each time even if a bit unbalanced
Door. Here is another look back. It is August 2001 and we were at a static display of two WWII era bombers, a B-17 and a B-24. Here, Allegra took a pic of Cameron and myself through the bomb bay doors. A unique perspective!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Estate shadows

Well, our modest home in the Ansonia Uplands is rather modest, 1400 sq ft (130m2) set upon a quarter acre (1112 m2so calling it an estate may be stretching the point). However, on a nice summer day, one can easily find subjects for Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Here I present two, nice shadows around our yard, First, a shadowy look down the hill in back. On our patio in the back, our new table from Lowes, assembled by a friend. means that we can eat outside and have that side order of shadow along with our charcoal grilled delicacies - a two course delight!

Friday Hunt 2017.2.1

It is Friday and time for the second installment for the year of the fun meme Friday Hunt, hosted by Teresa. And away we go...

Begins with 'A'. I think back to family vacations along the New Jersey shore at Atlantic City. I looked through my photo archives through four decades, so am using these for this week's favorite letter.

1965, the Villers kids & Dad riding on the boardwalk
1956. Grandpa in front of the long gone Traymore Hotel
1969, Grandpa & Aunt Terry, again in front of the Traymore
1978, Grandma Agnes (another 'A') in front of the first casino in AC
Sunset. From November 1981, the setting sun along the Mass. Turnpike near Worcester from the passenger seat of a Subaru. The old print held up well...
Inside. the time was the summer of 2003, inside our living room and our (hi-tech) computer of the day. Not blazing fast but safely inside and away from the elements. Thanks Teresa!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Ansonia memorial

It is nearly July 4 where we celebrate 241 years of declared independence for the USA, a time to celebrate. However for Shadow Shot Sunday 2, as MMT posted, we should consider those who perished to allow for this independence, so I am looking at shadows around Ansonia's City Hall. Two pics are the memorial at Veteran's Park and one in front of the building. Shadows fall over the monuments and we ought to stop and ponder the meaning of July 4...
