Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - The snow is ablaze

Yes, Spring began last week. Which did not mean that it should not nor could not snow. So of course it did! For Shadow Shot Sunday 2, the always lovely Patti captured our cardinal friend with early morning shadows. Although a fan of a four-season climate, I am not necessarily a fan of snow - but our scarlet avian lets me to change my mind on  occasion...

Friday Hunt 2017.2.23

Friday arrives the day before our first nuisance snowfall in Southern New England, so it is a perfect time to participate in teresa's great meme, Friday Hunt. This week's prompts offer a challenge, which is why it is so fun. So onward we go...

Starts with 'W'. The first is Wine, these from the Savino Vineyards in Woodbridge, CT. It is less than 2 miles (3.2 kM) from home. The wine was nice, too when we visited the lovely vineyards and winery.

Then there is White, the color of snow. Never fear though, this pic was taken on 1 Feb. 2011. There were so many big snowfalls that winter, and more than one roof collapsed in town. Since there was an ice storm the next day, and not wanting a roof failure, we hired someone to shovel the roof. This was our patio when the job was complete.

Weightlifting. This old print was taken be me at the weightlifting venue at the 1984 summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The faded colors impacted the image, but not my memories: when the weights hit the floor after the lift, you felt it in your seat. 

Dense. The foliage growing on the Savin Rock in West Haven CT is quite dense indeed. 

Texture. I think my sister's cat Jake is a fine example of a soft and furry texture!

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Winter's Last Gasp

I am tired of the cold temperatures of winter, and given the long term predictions that Spring is here (in feel as well as chronologically), I have to admit its artistry is nice. So for Shadow Shot Sunday 2, here is a look at our back yard last week - and it looks nice. In fact, there has been substantial snow melt this week, so one last look at the season past...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Cardinal

For today's Shadow Shot Sunday 2, I will complain about more snow as March progresses. Tuesdays snow (13in/33cm) ended with hours of sleet that froze and added a frosty crust to the frozen precip (in fact, the feral cats who pass through the back yard walk upon the frozen mess layering the earth). However, show makes for nice shadows of a forsythia and the cardinal underneath that Patti captured with a nice but not perfect point-and-shoot Olympus. Snow...ugh! But shadows on the snow - magnifiqué!

Friday Hunt, 2017.1.9

It is again time for Teresa's fun meme, Friday Hunt. The clues are in as am I now...

Starts with I. Two are presented this week, but are not from this winter, thankfully. The first (L) is Inch - our daughter measured the new snow on January 12, 2011. It was 15 inches (38 cm) that day. Our daughter wielded the tape measure, happily wearing gloves...to the right, taken a couple of weeks later (Jan. 27, 2011) after yet another massive snowfall - the icicles that formed over the gutter. Pretty sky, mean, jagged icicle. Happily, the winter of 2010-2011 passed, as will this winter - even as an Arctic blast is descending on us tonight...

Week's Favorite. Patti went to a Read Across America Day event at Bungay School in neighboring Seymour CT. Here, the school's Principal performs Green Eggs and Ham with the Cat in the Hat in front of the students in the gym. She looks great, although all the moves in high heels may have been a bit uncomfortable...

Nose. This was taken by passenger Patti in 1999 on the Fort Pitt Bridge in Pittsburgh and it is me, looking at the road as my profile is captured. Note the old Three Rivers Stadium in the background. Thanks as always for the meme, Teresa!

Shadow Shot Sunday - snowy yet shadowy

I'm back today for Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Fresh snow is a fine backdrop for shadows, and these were taken last week at Osbornedale State Park in neighboring Derby, CT. Cold air with blue skies makes for shadowy highlights by frozen Pickett's Pond. Of course, that was then - today, the snow is gone and it was a balmy 59°F / 15°C which is abnormal. Not that I'm complaining...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Snowy Yet Shadowy Aftermath

On Thursday we received about 13 inches / 33 cm of snow - and that had to be cleared on Friday. A family member took this pic from just beyond where the city plow piled the snow in front of the driveway - with only a Toro electric snow thrower and shovel to clear the way. Nevertheless, the sun arrived and added shadows to this snowy suburban scene - perfect for Shadow Shot Sunday 2! We have been alerted to more snow tomorrow. How many days until Spring?

Friday Hunt, 2017.1.6

The weekend begins and we are ready for Teresa's fun photo meme Friday Hunt is here. Without further ado, we begin:

Starts with 'F'. The first is a look at my second wheelchair van, a 1998 Ford E150. I drove it from 1998 to 2010, sold at about 160,000 miles (255,000 km); here is at our motel on Cape Cod

Another 'F' is a few inches (or a few cm) of snow at the beginning of Thursday's blizzard. We actually ended up with over a foot of snow by the evening.

The final 'F' sands for Family, this being all seven Villers kids on the famed Boardwalk in Atlantic City, I believe August 1969. I suppose at 14, I look positively thrilled at posing for a photo...

Week's Favorite. Patti captured this elusive blue jay as he/she huddles under the forsythia during Thursday's snowstorm

Heart. This heart contains 'Hello' an lots of languages at Irving School in neighboring Derby. This was the lesson students learned this week during Derby public schools and nationwide’ “Start with Hello” initiative; its goal is awareness of social isolation and the need to eliminate it. Thanks Teresa!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Snowy Showcase

Who needs sun for Shadow Shot Sunday 2? While nice to have, on this snowy weekend day, Patti captured this about two hours ago - the Christmas decorations had not yet been gathered, and it is snowing so...the holiday lights allow for shadowy snow outside the front door. Happy New Year 2017!
