The Weekend Roundup, 'Q'

I am happy to be back this week for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. The 17th letter takes a little bit of work to locate, but I did find a few...

My first example of beginning with 'Q' is the is the province and City of Quebec. This is Grandpa below the classic Château Frontenac, I believe in 1966 or 1967. What a classic building - and guy!

Here are Quilts along the balcony of the First Congregational Church in Seymour, CT
Obviously, 'Q' works for Quackers. Alas, it is not a Quartet nor Quintet, but instead a sextet paddling down the Housatonic River

A Favorite. Without a deep frost so far this autumn, the foliage color is not at all vibrant - this is the subtle color on Wednesday at Osbornedale StatePark in Derby CT. Have a great week!

The Weekend Roundup, 'G'

It is a humid Friday in CT, and since it's Friday, time again for Tom's fun photo meme, The Weekend Roundup. Today's letter prompted a look through the archives...

Starts with 'G'. This is Patti's mom as a Grandmother to her Grandkids, Cam (almost 4) and Allegra (almost 6). Taken in 1994, all look happy :)

Does anyone remember the AMC Gremlin? These pics were taken in March 1978 at the family's East Hartford CT domicile. The car was a 1974 in copper with Gold stripes. Kinda clunky, but the 232 six and TorqueFlite automatic were great. I also like the 1960-70s neighborhood vibe!

I think that Stained Glass works too. These windows date back to about 1900 and are in the First Congregational Church in Derby, CT.

Favorite. Patti captured this bluejay this morning apparently getting out of the sun in the forsythia. We have a lot of these lovely (if screechy) birds in our yard. Happy weekend to all!

The Weekend Roundup, 'Y'

I'm a day late, but that means it is Sunday - and still time for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. The 25th letter of the alphabet is featured this week, so here goes...

Beginning with 'Y' is Yale-New Haven Hospital. Patti captured this view of more hospital buildings across the street while recuperating after her kidney transplant last year. Her room was on the top floor, so now we joke that she was in the penthouse concierge level of Hotel Yale-New Haven :)
Since we live about 9 miles away from Yale University, I have show two buildings there, both taken from wheelchair height. I like the architecture of the old buildings at Yale.
A favorite. Our daughter met her brother in Brooklyn Thursday to participate in the MP3 Experiment. I like this view of the old brownstones that are dwarfed by the tower of the 1909 Manhattan Bridge. It feels like a throwback to a century ago...
Yellow. This sunset over Derby fits nicely!

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Stately Sterling at Sunset

The end of the day is nearing the stately Sterling Opera House in Derby CT. The sun and shade offer a nice accent to this Italianate Victorian edifice. Stylish and shadowy work well in adding a quiet dignity for Shadow Shot Sunday 2, kindly hosted by MMT.

The Weekend Roundup - 'W'

It is Friday in Southern New England and time for this week's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup, hosted by Tom. Away we go!

Begins with 'W'. We start with daughter Allegra as she Walks by the Water of Long Island Sound in West Haven, CT
The same young lady above was really little once. Here (9-10 months?) she is trying out a Walker to amble around our Derby apartment
Of course, there are Weddings. Here is my niece Julie in 2015.
Water, and a Favorite too! Just a couple of geese relaxing by Pickett's Pond at Osbornedale State Park in Derby CT. It is a serene scene indeed. Thanks Tom!

The Weekend Roundup - 'V'

Friday is here, so it is time again for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup.  Given my surname (Villers), this week's letter fits very well!

Starts with 'V'. Here is my dad, Ralph Villers II, in March 1970 deplaning from an early 747 flight at JFK Airport. He is carrying Voluminous flight and souvenir bags too!
How about a Villers (me) on Vacation at Cape Cod. The town of Barnstable (including Hyannis) beach lifeguards are very nice, not only assisting me into the beach wheelchair, but pushing that wheelchair onto the beach with smiles. Here is Craigville Beach on Nantucket Sound.
On another Vacation on the Cape, this seagull caught our eye. I had a proper parking permit - did he?
Another 'V' is Volkswagen. This is the best car I ever owned (before my wheelchair vans), a 1982 VW Rabbit with a manual transmission. With good tires, it was a blast to drive!
A favorite. Patti captured this on Memorial Day, The Derby CT Public Library. Opened in 1902 and expanded in the same style in 2000, it is a favorite of mine.
Violet. Here is a violet sunset out of the back window of our Ansonia home last November. Another great set of prompts Tom!

The Weekend Roundup 'S'

It's Friday and so it is time again for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. I like this week's letter and since I was not here last week, my week's favorite pic was from the event I attended last weekend. Onward we go...

My first 'S' is Steeple. Here is the classic New England steeple on the First Congregational Church in Derby CT. If you look closely, you will see the cell phone relays located on the steeple.
Another 'S' is a fun blast from the past - Skating on ice at a rink in St. Paul Minnesota, my dad and his sister and my big sister Michele with her NHL aspirations. The date stamp on the pics is Jan. 1959, and this day, Snowless in St. Paul...
Finally, how about young Ralph in 1964 in front of Captain Starn's Yacht Bar in Atlantic City. This was long before the glitzy casinos of today. In fact, this place looks like it was as seaworthy as the S.S. Minnow...
My Favorite. Last week we celebrated the always lovely Patti's one year anniversary of her kidney transplant in May 2017. We had a pizza party for family and friends at Rosa Mina, our favorite restaurant in Ansonia. Of course, there was cake - and Kidneyversary was the perfect description for a day to celebrate!

The Weekend Roundup 'Q'

We are on the cusp of the weekend and thus are ready for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. This week's letter is 'Q' which was actually easy to find a pic or two :)

Quacker. This lovely lady Mallard sits proudly on a bridge pier sitting over the Wepawaug River in Milford CT. Quack quack!
Next are Quilts, and Quite a few! This is in the Seymour CT Congregational Church
And of course, the New York City borough of Queens, here on the Long Island Expressway, often known as the world's longest parking lot (car park). Although today it was moving quite well westbound :)
Favorite. This is the door to a tailor in Derby CT who retired yesterday after 66 years. The sky, flag and Mr. Carlino's name look so right together. We even published a few more pics in our Valley-Voice Newsletter today. Thanks Tom!

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Shadowy Scarves

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 brings us to the boutique in the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital in Derby Connecticut (we love so much about the cancer center with Patti's cancer care - she is a seven year survivor :) There are a variety items for sale at the boutique including these stylish scarves and other head coverings for women undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Shadows add to the style too! Thanks for hosting MMT!

The Weekend Roundup - 'P'

Ah, since it's Friday, it is time for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. This week's letter prompt is 'Perfect" :) Thanks Tom!

Begins with 'P'. First is our daughter Allegra in a Playpen. I guess at about 10 months old in 1989. And I see a hint of Purple on the label on her overalls...
Here is Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton CT. Opened in 1894, it is a beautiful building.
How about a Pony in a Parade? This is along Main St. Ansonia's Memorial Day Parade in 2015.
It has been another cool Spring in CT. However, our Patio looked inviting in Summer 2017...
A Favorite. This is a Soldiers' Monument featuring a Union soldier from the Civil War on the Derby CT Green. Plaques on two sides of the recently-renovated monument list local soldiers who had fallen in four Civil War battles: Atlanta, Chancellorsville (VA), New Bern (N.C.), and Gettysburg.

The Weekend Roundup 'N'

It is a Saturday in the Spring, and time again for a favored meme, The Weekend Roundup. The letter prompt this week offers many a possibility...

Begins with 'N' starts with New York City. These first photos are from the 1957 Easter Parade in the borough of Manhattan. My grandmother and Aunt Terry had stylish Easter Hats, my aunt's looking like a 1950s flying saucer!
Next is homemade black bean chili Nachos we made. They were good, but Tex-Mex restaurant nachos are prettier (if not tastier :)
Favorite. The always lovely Patti was inside the Derby (CT) United Methodist Church the other day. As   sunset arrived, the glow from the stained glass windows was beautiful. And in the second window, the Easter story is told. This church was opened in 1894, and as we have guessed - they don't really build them like they used to. Thanks for the prompts Tom!
