The Weekend Roundup, 'Z'

It is the Friday eve so again time for a favored meme, The Weekend Roundup, hosted by Tom. The 26th letter is featured, and I see it in the beginning - and within a word or two. So let's begin!

To start with 'Z', I have chosen Zois Pizza in Seymour , CT.

A 'Z' located within is the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge in Boston. I love the wishbone towers and its style is amazing!

And buried further within, I chose Blizzard. This was the biggest I've ever seen in Southern CT and here is the aftermath of the Feb. 8, 2013 storm. The kids were ready for a few sleepy Zzz's after clearing 40 inches of snow...

Zany. I took a picture of myself in my 'Director's Chair' along the flanks of a 1964 Chevy El Camino. And if it's not zany, it is at least unique!

The Weekend Roundup, 'X'

Well, it is Saturday and time for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. This week's letter is a tough one, but I can find it buried within a few things, so here goes...

There are stunt bicyclists referred to as BMX. Patti captured these at a school demonstration in Seymour. They are Extreme riders indeed!

Another buried 'X' lies in this view along the Bruckner Expressway in the New York City borough of the Bronx...

A favorite and my choice is this crow, taken on Thursday in our mulberry tree in our front yard. This big bird is also beautiful!

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Constructing Shadows

Construction and shadows go together well.

So for this week’s Shadow Shot Sunday 2, the always lovely Patti captured these linear shadowy shots as Seymour (CT) High School students were building a two-bedroom “house” as a wooden structure will be used for firefighter training in controlled burns.

Under the sky of a breathtakingly beautiful day, these shadows were solidly constructed too! Have a nice Memorial Day weekend MMT!

The Weekend Roundup 'Q'

We are on the cusp of the weekend and thus are ready for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. This week's letter is 'Q' which was actually easy to find a pic or two :)

Quacker. This lovely lady Mallard sits proudly on a bridge pier sitting over the Wepawaug River in Milford CT. Quack quack!

Next are Quilts, and Quite a few! This is in the Seymour CT Congregational Church

And of course, the New York City borough of Queens, here on the Long Island Expressway, often known as the world's longest parking lot (car park). Although today it was moving quite well westbound :)

Favorite. This is the door to a tailor in Derby CT who retired yesterday after 66 years. The sky, flag and Mr. Carlino's name look so right together. We even published a few more pics in our Valley-Voice Newsletter today. Thanks Tom!

The Weekend Roundup 'G'

Ah, the weekend is here and time for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup, this week featuring the letter 'G' which begins this week's post...

I begin with my Grandparents, Ralph and Agnes Villers. To the left, they are at their 50th anniversary service on August 21, 1976 at St. Peter's Church in Steubenville, Ohio. The entire family went to this wonderful event. To the right, I believe this to be their wedding day in 1926. Can't be totally sure, but they do look happy :)

On the next day (Aug. 22, 1976) of that fun weekend, we also see Grandchildren, my Dad and Aunt Terry (their children), their spouses and 12 grandkids. Here is by the pool at the Steubenville Holiday Inn. I'm in the back row, third from the right.

Then there is Glassware on display at Country Cottage in Seymour, CT. They sell an eclectic array of home decor, estate jewelry, seasonal items, and more.

Favorite. I love this photo that the always lovely Patti. This view of Pickett’s Pond at Osbornedale State Park in Derby CT. I know it's Winter, but this may be illusory. Look closely, you might even think it’s summer instead. I see an azure sea with gentle whitecaps breaking at the shore. And I see the horizon with fair weather clouds above a calm sea. What do you see?  

Finally, there is Green. More specifically, the New Haven CT Green on a Spring day a few years ago. I'm looking forward to green leaves (and warm temps) in a couple of months!

Friday Hunt 2017.2.19

Friday returns as does a great meme, Friday Hunt posted by Teresa. Onward to the prompts…

Starts with ’S’. Given my heritage, Steubenville, Ohio is my first ’S’, this being a parking structure in the city in 1955. Called pigeon hole parking, here the steel bodied cars are stacked nicely…

Here is a marquee on the Strand Theater in our neighbor of Seymour CT. Patti and I saw this collection of one-act plays by David Ives performed by the local Sterling Lion theater group in June. It was witty and fun!

Here are stained glass windows. I was impressed with these views at St. Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor, CT.

Metal. I think this is metal - but what kind (or what it may be) is a mystery.

Mineral. I choose diamond. These are Patti’s rings that had to be cut off six years ago prior to surgery. Not to worry, a local jewelry maker laser welded them back together and looks as seamless as ever. Nice prompts this week Teresa!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Urban Bucolic

For this week's Shadow Shot Sunday 2, I look at our neighbor to the north, Seymour CT. The lower Naugatuck Valley has been very industrial, but you'd never know it in On top, we see the river looking east from Derby Avenue; below from the Broad Street Bridge. I chose bucolic as that is how it feels - if we don't look too hard, the urban disappears completely...

Friday Hunt 2017.2.2

The change in weather from hot and humid yesterday to cool and rainy today was noticeable, yet it is perfect day for another post in Teresa's fun meme Friday Hunt. The prompts await...

Starts with 'B'. I thought that Beach was a perfect 'B', and here are three pics from a family vacation on Cape Cod, at two beaches in the town of Barnstable at (Craigville and Kalmus). Warm days along Nantucket Sound with warm waters for New England (73°F) / 23°C). I am in a beach chair, the children are in and out of the water - I'd still give the Cape beaches a tip of the hat today...

Out of Balance. I think, anyway. These BMX riders are at a program at a school in neighboring Seymour. I think they are moving as they are with speed and inertia. They landed well each time even if a bit unbalanced

Door. Here is another look back. It is August 2001 and we were at a static display of two WWII era bombers, a B-17 and a B-24. Here, Allegra took a pic of Cameron and myself through the bomb bay doors. A unique perspective!

Friday returns as does a favorite meme, Friday Hunt, hosted by Teresa. To this week's set of clues, here are my choices:

Starts with 'X'. Number 24 in our alphabet is difficult as there aren't many words that start with it. So my choices include the letter. Such as Christmas is sometimes called Xmas. So, Xmas 1963 in East Hartford CT will do!

Here is a true Starts with 'X', but neither verb nor noun. It is local rockers XYZ Revisited from neighbor Seymour performing at a street festival last year. 

Of course, there is Expressway...

Week’s Favorite. Patti and I got out to a production last Saturday, a fun live show at the classic Strand Theater in Seymour. As the always lovey Patti is doing quite well, she gets out more. And writes a review of the offbeat It's All in the Timing for today's newsletter

Insect. Well, I have no pics that I can find. So, instead, how about Bug? If so, local artist Love Bug Tie Dyes will do. At least I think so :)

Starts with 'W'. Naturally, watercolors begin with this week's favorite letter

Finally, there is Window, this one at the 1889 Sterling Opera house in Derby CT

Week's Favorite. We were at Yale-New Haven Hospital for Patti's weekly visit with her transplantation team. This is a look out the window while we were in the waiting room. The doctors, APRN's and social workers on the team are fantastic, so the simple view of a great hospital is my favorite.

Pastel. I go with Pink, here on the sign at Tickled Pink in Seymour, CT. Thanks again for hosting this meme Teresa!
