The Weekend Roundup 'L'

It is a warm(ish) Saturday in March, so again time for Toms fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. My 'L' submittals are as follows...

This Lighthouse is at Five Mile Point on Long Island Sound entering the New Haven Harbor in Connecticut. Built in 1847, it is 80 ft (24 M) tall.

This reception at LuLu Pazzo Italiano restaurant. It was a Luscious array with Lots of fabulous eats including yummy (and hot) stuffed peppers, olives and mortadella. It was a Lovely event!

This old pic is from Luxembourg when I visited in 1982.

Long. This was one my Grandfather's last vehicles before he passed away in 1981. This is a true Land barge, a 1971 Chrysler  Three Hundred. It was really long at 224.7 inches (5,710 mm). I drove it a few times - it was had to keep tack of it...but with a big 440 V-8, it moved along nicely :)

Favorite. How about this squirrel perched upon a Firestone on my Grand Caravan. The squirrels in our yard 

are rather endearing!

Friday Hunt, 2017.1.26

Ah, it is Friday and a favorite meme. Friday Hunt hosted by Teresa, is back for the week and the final letter of the alphabet. Which I covered :)

Begins with 'Z'. I found it with pics from 2010, the Zakim Bridge in Boston. More specifically, it is Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, carrying I-93 and US1 over the Charles river. I love the stylish design of this cable stayed bridge and its name allows for a 'Z' entry! And if you stick around to the end of the post...

Week's Favorite. To the untrained eye, it looks like a plate of cavatelli, broccoli and sausage. But we know better - it is Patti's next milestone. Her doctor at Yale-New Haven cleared her for restaurant meals again - yay! So we went to a local Ansonia favorite Rosa Mina for dinner last night. Although buffets and salad bars are still verboten, we were happy to follow doctor's orders!

Dessert. In a bit of luck, I found another 'Z', that being zeppoles at Ansonia's Lulu Pazzo Italiano. This pic was captured in April before the transplant surgery. These fried dough bits were amazing, and paired with a good cappuccino, a great way to end a fine meal. Looking forward to the next round of Friday Hunt!

Friday Hunt, 2017.1.17

On the first really warm Friday since I don't remember when, it is time again for Teresa's fun Friday Hunt. And I am ready...

Begins with 'Q'. There are not many I can think of, but the first one that jumps to mind is the New York City borough of Queens, where I spent part of my youth. The elevated signs on the region's bridges and expressways allow for a capitol 'Q'. And if that is not quite enough, how about a Quintet of Quackers swimming in the Housatonic River in Shelton CT. 

Week's Favorite. Patti and went for a birthday dinner (mine, 62 :) at Lulu Pazzo Italiano in Ansonia. We attended the grand opening in February, so we knew the food was great (and it was). This week's favorite pic was desert, Zeppoles. Little fried dough pieces drizzled with caramel with Nutela as a dip. The nicest fried dough this side of New Orleans...

Evening. This is a view of New Haven Harbor in June 2003. The sky is changing from day to night over the urban waters and the little boats are tucked in for the night. Nice clues again this week!

Friday Hunt, 2017.1.12

The weekend arrives with Teresa's fun photo meme, Friday Hunt. Given her clues, I am ready :)

Starts with 'L'. The first one is a statue of Marquis de Lafayette, the French general who aided in the Colonial Army. Lafayette today marches at the intersection of Capitol and Washington Avenues in Hartford Connecticut. Alas, the daily commuters probably do not know of the aid provided by the French general that helped form our republic..

This is another pic of the grand opening spread at the new Lulu Pazzo Italiano restaurant in Ansonia. This was the seafood offering (I stayed with the cooked shrimp on the upper platter)

Finally, Patti captured a nice look at the glass pyramid at the Musée Louvre during a school trip with our daughter in 2004.

Week's Favorite. Our daughter captured this fiery sunrise this morning. So colorful yet as we are aware of the old sailor's saying about 'Red sky at morning...' It was a gray day, so the old seafarer's adage was true today.

Antique. This print is an antique to me although it was taken in real time, this being 1920. It is my grandfather, the gentleman in the vest. I believe his half-sister Essie is to his right, his mother Lucinda to his left and his father James next to her. It was likely taken in the Ohio River steel town of Weirton, West Virginia. The print I have has Grandpa's notations from 1978 on the back - he looks just so cool! 

Friday Hunt, 2017.1.8

Friday returns and a favorite blog meme does so as well, Teresa’s Friday Hunt. Without further ado, here are mine…

Starts with H. I choose Connecticut’s capitol city, Hartford. This views were taken by Passenger Patti along Interstate 91 North near downtown a few years ago.

The next 'H' is Hyundai and this was our goodbye to our 2003 Hyundai Elantra, a faithful beast for 13 years - until its transmission quit. It owed us nothing and a rebuilt unit was $1,800+. So we said our farewells and likely used the $75.00 we received at a restaurant toasting its life (and its replacement Chevy Sonic...)

Week's Favorite. We attended the grand opening of a new eatery in our small city of Ansonia, Lulu Pazzo Italiano. Of course, there was food for the guests and this spread was a tasty favorite with stuffed hot green cherry peppers, parmesan chunks, mortadella, shrimp, tortellini, olives and lots more. A feast for eye as well as palate…

Chiaroscuro or shadow. On the same road trip to the capital city, this road runs under the city’s library as we exit the portal - a shadow enters or exits the portal, depending if you are entering or exiting. Thanks Teresa for this week’s clues :)
